Top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka Secures Back-to-Back WTA Player of the Year Honors.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second straight season.
The 27-year-old captured four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – including retaining the US Open this past September against Amanda Anisimova to claim her fourth career Grand Slam singles title.
A Season of High Performance
Across the season, Sabalenka competed in a tour-best nine championship matches, with losses coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The star player also claimed victory at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the whole season as the world number one, ending 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she achieved the status of being the first player to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015.
Record-Breaking Statistics
Sabalenka finished the competitive year with a 63-12 match record, and picked up a record £11m in earnings.
She garnered almost 80% of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
On 28 December, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match in a bid to "help bring women's tennis to a new level".
Other WTA Award Winners
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, was voted after taking a 13-month break following the birth of her first child and returning to the sport earlier this season.
- Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko received the award after starting the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and soaring to the eighteenth spot.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after securing their second Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after reaching five championship matches.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as fans' favourite for a third consecutive time.
